What did i do?

During my 6 months here at Jackalope, I designed the user interface and core UI components for the Jackalope’s MVP release. While closely collaborating with developers and communicating with the CEO about what his ideal design direction, I rapidly brought concepts to life, prototyping screens from general ideas to concrete mockups to shape the direction of the app. Since this was considered the early stages of Jackalope’s development, I was immersed in a very fluid stage of the design process, which I loved; this pushed me to constantly consider how to further develop for efficiency while adding new functionality. One of my primary goals was to create a consistent standard experience across all screens in order to bring an easy and adoptable product for our users. As the app came together, I continued to iterate, identifying how to improve overall usability. At this point in time, I was also in charge crafting the info architecture, and laying out the entire application’s workflows in a way that would be intuitive and clear to our users. This also brought clarity within the team and a cohesive understanding of Jackalope’s tasks and goals.

While I am unable to publicly present the details of my work, I would love to have a deeper conversation about my experience here. Please contact me if you would like to learn more.

What did i learn?

Reflecting on my experience, I learned how to be comfortable with ambiguity and work with independence. I was part of a very small team, less than 10 people, which pushed me to become an agile thinker. I consistently pushed myself to take initiative in order to actively contribute to the development and direction of the product in this fast paced environment. I was also able to hone in and sharpen my remote work habits and skills, as Jackalope is based remotely with people all over the world. As one of the primary designers at the time, I had to take initiative to push myself and set deadlines. This work environment further allowed me to reflect on my communication approaches, as I learned how to convey my ideas with clarity in multidisciplinary settings.

Overall, I thoroughly loved the ambitious, productive and innovative atmosphere I experienced as I was working here at a small-scale startup. Going forward, I am even more motivated to learn and grow professionally alongside inspiring individuals who help my shape my mindset and perspective.

I would like to thank my boss and mentor, Barrett Stapelman, for his constant guidance and support throughout my internship experience.
